The words on this piece are based on those moments before the Israelites crossed the Red Sea on dry land, with walls of water to the left and right. Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt – but the Pharaoh has had second thoughts and has come after them at their camp near the sea. The Israelites are terrified. The actual verse is, “Moses answered the people, ‘Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again.’” Exodus 14:13 (NIV) Maybe it would have sounded the way I wrote it, if Moses had been from Montgomery.
